Botanical Casting Workshop with Katy Eccles

Friday 30th May // 10.30am - 3.30pm

£120

Join Katy Eccles from Imprint Casts for an immersive workshop in botanical casting, hosted within our studio at Belladrum Estate.

Katy is a botanical casting artist based in Edinburgh, Scotland, who works with interiors designers, commercial partners and private clients to create bespoke site specific plaster cast artworks.

During the workshop you will learn her botanical casting method and create your own 20cm roundel by capturing the delicate impressions of fresh flowers and foliage in clay and preserving them in plaster to create a unique artwork.

You will start the day foraging for flowers and foliage to cast from the local environment. Katy will then teach you how to roll out clay and preserve the imprint of your chosen foliage to create your own botanical cast. After pouring plaster into your impression a delicious lunch will be served, and while you wait for the plaster to dry, you will have a chance to explore the Wild Gorse shop and Belladrum Estate before revealing and cleaning the casts in the afternoon. You will head home with your own botanical plaster cast artwork made using seasonal home grown Wild Gorse flowers and a new crafting skill to experiment with at home.

We’re excited to invite you to this creative workshop experience and look forward to seeing the beautiful casts at the end of the session. No prior casting experience is necessary—this is a beginner-friendly session. We’ll be foraging outdoors, so please bring sturdy shoes and don’t forget an old shirt or apron to wear during the messy casting process. It’s also worth wearing an outfit you don’t mind getting dirty as you will be handling clay, plaster and flowers.
